Optimal Water Parameters
Temperature: 70–78°F (21–26°C) is ideal, though they can tolerate 64–79°F.
pH: 6.5–7.5 (some sources suggest they are adaptable, but neutral to slightly acidic is best).
Hardness (GH): 6–15 dGH.
TDS: 100–200 ppm.
Nitrate: Keep below 20 ppm; they prefer clean water.
Tank Setup and Care
Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons, with 15–20 gallons preferred for larger groups.
Schooling: Keep in groups of at least 6–10 to reduce stress and improve coloration.
Habitat: Dense planting, floating plants, and dim lighting (often accomplished by dark substrate) enhance their colors.
Diet: Small, omnivorous diet. They require high-quality flake food, frozen or live foods, such as baby brine shrimp or daphnia.
These fish are excellent for nano tanks but can be timid, making them unsuitable for tanks with aggressive, fast-moving tankmates.
